Guido’s Orchestra verzorgt concert op hoog(s)tepunt
Op 27 juni 2009 verzorgt Guido’s Orchestra in samenwerking met de Gemeente Vaals een uniek openluchtconcert op het hoogste punt van Nederland, het Drielandenpunt in Vaals. Van het concert worden tv en dvd opnames gemaakt die in Nederland, België, Engeland, Ierland en Duitsland worden uitgezonden. Coldplay komt terug naar Nederland
Zo is bekend gemaakt dat Coldplay volgend najaar terugkomt naar Nederland voor een concert in het Goffertpark in Nijmegen. Het concert vindt plaats op 10 september 2009. De kaartverkoop begint aanstaande om 10.00 uur via livenation.nl en 0900 10102020 (45 ct.p.m).
Na de twee uitverkochte en zeer goed ontvangen concerten in Ahoy afgelopen oktober gaat Coldplay met het komende concert de openlucht in. Het Britse viertal staat op 10 september in het Goffertpark in Nijmegen in het kader van hun Viva La Vida Tour.
Het album Viva La Vida lijkt weer alle records te gaan breken. De eerste single ‘Violet Hill’, werd door de band via internet gratis aangeboden aan alle fans en werd binnen één week door 2 miljoen mensen gedownload. Na een aantal maanden staat het nummer nog steeds hoog in de hitlijsten, en ook de nieuwe single Lost met Jay-Z belooft een enorm succes te gaan worden. Michael Jackson denkt dé oplossing voor zijn financiële problemen in handen te hebben.
De zanger zou op zoek zijn naar een uitgever die zijn autobiografie wil publiceren én hem daarvoor een groot voorschot wil betalen.
"Ondanks alles wat we over Michael weten blijft hij één van de meest intrigerende beroemdheden", vertelt een bron aan The Daily Record. "En als hij echt van plan is om een paar goede geheimen te onthullen, zouden zijn memoires een echte bestseller kunnen worden."

The Pirate Bay viert zijn eerste lustrum. Ondanks talloze juridische dreigementen en een rechtszaak tegen de beheerders, ziet de Zweedse torrentportal vijf jaar na de oprichting de bezoekersaantallen nog steeds groeien.
Wanneer The Pirate Bay in 2003 online ging, weten de oprichters ook niet exact meer, schrijven ze op hun blog. De website en de bijbehorende trackers hadden aanvankelijk hun thuishaven in Mexico, maar de vloot voer al snel naar Zweden. The Pirate Bay wist dankzij de populariteit van het bittorrent-protocol snel te groeien, terwijl p2p-programma's als Emule hun gebruikersschare in de loop der jaren gestaag zagen slinken. Eind 2004 waren op The Pirate Bay 60.000 torrents te vinden, terwijl een miljoen downloaders door de trackers werden bediend. Een jaar later lag het aantal peers op 2,5 miljoen. Politie houdt 264 partygangers aan
De politie heeft in de nacht van op in totaal 264 bezoekers van de danceparty Qlimax in Gelredome in Arnhem aangehouden. Alle aanhoudingen op vier na hadden te maken met het bezit van en handelen in drugs, waaronder xtc en cocaïne.
Qlimax trok 25.000 bezoekers, onder wie veel buitenlandse feestvierders. Justitie inde tijdens de party bijna drieduizend euro aan boetes die direct werden afgerekend. Volgens de politie is het feest ondanks het fikse aantal aanhoudingen goed verlopen.

De rapper was naar Liverpool gevlogen om de MTV Awards bij te wonen en moest een kleedkamer delen met de band Ting Tings. Kanye schokte de bandleden door in een hoek van de kamer op het tapijt te plassen. "Hij kon geen toilet vinden backstage", liet een bron aan de Britse krant The Sun weten.

Schimmels zorgen voor Stradivariushout
Met behulp van in het laboratorium gekweekte paddestoelen is men er in Zwitserland in geslaagd een viool te bouwen die het klankideaal van Stradivarius moet benaderen. Dat heeft alles te maken met de dichtheid van het gebruikte hout. De wereldberoemde instrumentenbouwer Stradivarius (1644-1737) bouwde violen die nu nog bekendstaan als de beste aller tijden.
De kwaliteit van zijn instrumenten had veel te danken aan het soort hout dat Stradivarius gebruikte. Stradivarius gebruikte hout dat van nature een lage dichtheid bezat, van bomen die groeiden gedurende de zogenoemde 'kleine ijstijd', die duurde van 1645 tot 1715. Lees meer »

Sony probeert haar Blu-Ray-formaat niet alleen voor films populair te maken, het bedrijf komt nu namelijk ook met Blu-spec CD. Dit nieuwe type cd ondersteunt volgens de makers betere geluidskwaliteit en is tegelijkertijd ook gewoon afspeelbaar op 'normale' cd-spelers.

'White space' open voor internetverkeer
Ondanks protest van niemand minder dan Dolly Parton, heeft de Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in de Verenigde Staten besloten om het zogenaamde 'white space', oftewel de ruimte in de ether tussen de verschillende radio- en tv-zenders, open te stellen voor internetverkeer.
De FCC, die over regelgeving rond telefonie, radio, tv en internet gaat, heeft over deze kwestie gestemd. Er stond van alle kanten veel druk op de instantie. Bedrijven als Google en Microsoft willen de ether open hebben voor zogenaamde WiMAX-zenders. Deze kunnen zorgen voor snel draadloos internet over een groot gebied. Britse muziekshops gaan mp3 promoten
Een groep online muziekretailers in het Verenigd Koninkrijk gaat het mp3-formaat promoten, en het publiek informeren over de voordelen zoals de mogelijkheid om het op diverse apparaten af te kunnen spelen.
De retailers, waaronder 7Digital, HMV, Woolworths en Play.com hebben samen met de Entertainment Retailers Association een mp3-logo ontworpen dat het winkelend publiek moet helpen overtuigen dat muziek in dit formaat '100% compatible' is, aldus BBC News. Problemen met de verscheidene drm-formaten zoals die van Microsoft en Apple, die niet op alle muziekspelers kunnen worden afgespeeld, hoeven kopers niet te verwachten en volgens 7Digital zijn klanten erg enthousiast over de vrijheid die dat ze geeft. Stemmen voor de ‘Top 1000 Allertijden’ is begonnen
Het stemmen voor ‘Veronica’s Top 1000 Allertijden, editie 2008’ is van start gegaan. Op de dag dat de Amerikanen naar de stembus gaan om een nieuwe president te kiezen, mag ook het Nederlandse volk zijn stem uitbrengen. Tijdens de ochtendshow ‘Ook Goeiemorgen’ bracht Max Westerman vanmorgen als eerste zijn eerste stem uit voor de ‘Top 1000 Allertijden’. De Amerika-expert koos het nummer ‘As’ van Stevie Wonder als favoriete plaat aller tijden. Tot en met 1 december kunnen Radio Veronica-luisteraars via radioveronica.nl stemmen voor de lijst met de 1000 beste platen ooit gemaakt.
"Het moet wel heel vreemd lopen wil Barack Omaba niet de nieuwe president van de Verenigde Staten worden" aldus Max Westerman, die er voor 99,9% vanuit gaat dat Obama de verkiezingen gaat winnen. Wie echter de nieuwe nummer één wordt in de ‘lijst der lijsten‘ ligt nog helemaal open. Zoals ieder jaar is het aan de luisteraars van Radio Veronica om dat te bepalen.
